2023 MotoGP Championship Standings

2023 sees perhaps the most fundamental shake up to the MotoGP schedule with the introduction of the Saturday Sprint Race. Joining the ranks for WSBK and F1, MotoGP introduced the Sprint Race to both reinvigorate interest in the sport after a drop in viewing figures, but also to offer better value to fans, offering two days of fast paced action. Combined with an extension of the season, now fought over 9 month and twenty-one rounds, the introduction of the sprint races will certainly make the 2023 champion work hard for the title.

Sprint races will be run over half the respective race distance and points will be awarded to the top nine riders only, with 12 points for a win, 9 for second and 7 for third. The remaining places will be awarded 6,5,4,3,2 and 1 point respectively. With points for the Sunday race being unchanged, this gives a total of 777 points on offer over the season.

What TV channels will MotoGP be on this year?

TV coverage may vary from race to race, but generally, live coverage will be shown on BT Sport, who have secured TV rights until 2024.

Highlights coverage is yet to be agreed but is expected to be secured by ITV4 as per the 2022 Season. We're yet to hear if certain races will be shown live, but here's hoping!

We'll update this page with all the TV schedules for each round, so keep coming back to make sure you don't miss any of the action.

Where else can I watch MotoGP races live this year?

As well as subscription and free-to-view TV programming detailed above, you can watch every test session, timed practice, qualifying and race session on the MotoGP Video Pass.

ITV4 is available on:

  • Channels 26 and 60 (+1) on Freeview
  • Channels 117 (HD/SD) and 118 (+1) on Freesat
  • Channels 118 (HD) and 175 (+1) on Virgin Media
  • Channel 24 (SD) on BT
  • Channels 120 (HD), 220 (+1) and 818 (SD) on Sky, and
  • Channel 132 on Virgin Media Ireland.

It's also available streaming via the ITV Hub Streaming Service (UK only).

What's new for the 2023 MotoGP Season?

MotoGP undergoes one of its biggest overhauls for the 2023 season with the introduction of WSBK-style sprint races. Held at 13:00 (local time) on the Saturday of the race weekend, the sprint races will be approximately half-race-distance and follow the same rule set as the full-length race.

Grid positions for the sprint race (and full-length race) will be decided by qualifying sessions which will remain unchanged. Points shall be awarded for the first nine positions – 12 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, 7 for 3rd and so on down to 1 point for 9th position.

To allow for the sprint races, the free-practice sessions have also been revised. While Friday's sessions remain unchanged, Saturday's Free Practice 3 will now be a 30-minute session (similar to last season's FP4 session).

On race day, the order of races will be amended, and all events will follow the same format. Moto3 race will kick off the action, followed by the Moto2 race and the MotoGP race being the last event of the day.

With the demise of the Suzuki MotoGP team, we'll see a few new teams on the 2023 MotoGP grid, namely the first ever satellite Aprilia Team (Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez) and the newly formed GASGAS team (Moto2 Champ Augusto Fernandez and Pol Espargaro).

You can read about each of these changes in more detail, and any other minor changes at the official MotoGP regulations document.
